| "Highway Mass" was commissioned by and composed for Ensemble Robot in spring 2008. At first glance, it appears to be a liturgical mass, complete with a Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei. Yet the piece is also telling a story: a multifaceted tale of memory, betrayal, loss, and a tragic highway accident, conveyed by a multiplicity of characters emering from the voice of one singer: an abused boy soprano, the ghost of an accident victim, and an innocent bystander who witnesses the accident while driving on the highway. |
| World Premiere, Kyrie/Gloria: June 15, 2008 at the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, Woolsey Hall, Yale University, New Haven, CT. Performers: Ensemble Robot; Megan Schubert, soprano; Midori Matsuo, conductor. |
