| "Lucy Songs" was composed in 2004 for Alarm Will Sound. It consists of music that I had originally planned to turn into an opera about a series of suicides at a women's college; however, after the tragic death of one of my best friends, I decided to turn this music into a kind of amplified orchestral EP, a series of narrative songs that express the uncanny resonance between my fictional story and the all-too-real experience I had of losing someone close to me. |
| World Premiere: May 7, 2004 at the Skirball Center for the Arts, New York. Performers: Alarm Will Sound; Karen Feder, mezzo-soprano; Alan Pierson, conductor. |
